Costs are incurred due to:
- medical diagnoses, therapies and consultations
- due to hospitalisation
- treatment by senior consultants and supplements for single rooms
In Germany the fees doctors can charge are regulated. This provides a safeguard against arbitrary and above all excessive fees. As outpatients or inpatients the price of complex treatments lasting several weeks can be calculated beforehand. Foreign patients like to have an estimate of the total cost.
Good healthcare doesn’t come cheap. As an outpatient, a thorough medical check-up costs about €1.500, an operation for thyroid cancer approx. €13.000 and three-week, orthopaedic rehabilitation could cost as much as €18.000.
